Major Decisions, Major Changes

Since the last post in October 2007, we made some decisions and put our plan to action. After the purchase of our 2007 Monaco La Palma XL 34PDD diesel in May we set a date of March 2008 for our retirement. Then we moved the date to Februrary in order to attend a motorhome rally. Then we moved the date to January 2008 in order to attend another motorhome rally and the Big Tent Event in Quartzsite. So we gave 3+ weeks notice at work and never looked back. Our last day at work was January 4th and we were on the road January 6th.

Although we miss our friends at work, we do not miss work. We are happy, relaxed, rested, having fun, exploring new places, and meeting new friends.

Well... At the February Monaco Rally in Lancaster, CA we looked at new motorhomes and we agreed that we needed to trade in our 2007 La Palma for a new one! Yep, we did! And we love our new home-on-wheels! It is a 2008 Monaco Cayman 35SBD with all the upgrades and improvements that we wanted to do on the "old" one. BUT the main reason we made the upgrade was for safety. The "old" motorhome was rated to carry only 1000 pounds. The new Cayman has a CCC (Cargo Carry Capacity) of 4700 pounds! (I've read that the average full-time RVing couple should figure 2000 to 3000 pounds of stuff.) Although we thought we could have made do with the old motorhome, we truly wanted to be safe and not over-weight the motorhome. And like I mentioned, it has all the brand new fabulous upgrades that we would have spent the next year working on.
